Andrew backs exciting plans for Audenshaw park

Backing exciting plans for Audenshaw parkExciting plans are being drawn up for new play equipment in an Audenshaw park following consultation with local residents. Shepley Wood Park had its original equipment removed two years ago but plans to replace the swings and slides were mothballed after government funding for the scheme was cut. But the council has vowed to find the necessary money to bring the park back to its former glory.

Andrew and Audenshaw ward councillors are now leading the campaign which will see local residents and children help decide what facilities they want to see on the site. Initial consultation with residents has already seen the building of a kick wall for youngsters to practice their football skills. More will be known about what other equipment will go into the green space once the consultation has been completed.

Executive Member for Children and Families, Cllr Allison Gwynne said:

“There was a project in place but the government funding was taken from us. I want residents to be rest assured that after we have consulted them about what they would like to see in the playground we will get the new equipment in as quickly as possible.”

Audenshaw’s MP, Andrew Gwynne, said:

“I was dismayed when the government axed the cash for some of Tameside’s parks to be upgraded, but am really pleased that Tameside Council have listened to my representations and to residents’ concerns and agreed to fund a new children’s play area at Shepley Wood.  Local people deserve a proper play site here and not just a brick wall.   I hope now that local children will get involved and let the Council know what sort of play equipment they would like to see here.”
