Andrew pays tribute to the late Roy Oldham CBE

Roy OldhamAndrew has payed tribute to Ex-Tameside Council Leader Roy Oldham CBE who has died. Andrew said “I am very sad at the news that we have lost Roy. He was a hugely influential figure as leader of Tameside metropolitan borough council from 1980 until this year. Those 30 years at the top made him the longest serving council leader in the country.”

“His achievement in transforming the borough from sleepy backwater into one of the leading metropolitan districts is a testament to his drive and vision to make the borough a leading council. He was completely committed to our community in Tameside and will be missed by his many friends and comrades in the Labour Party.”
