Andrew presents highly commended Tameside Restaurant with Kitchen Whites.

Visiting Aashiana restaurant in DentonA Denton based restaurant has been highly commended in a national competition to find the best South Asian restaurant in the UK.  Aashiana restaurant is based in the centre of Denton and was opened in 2003, it was highly recommended by the judges for the Newby Teas Tiffin Cup. As a highly commended restaurant the restaurant has been awarded with a certificate and embroidered jacket to mark their achievement in the competition.

The Tiffin Cup competition is an annual event organised by a cross-party group of Members of Parliament known as the Tiffin Club. Earlier in the year local people were encouraged to contact their MP to nominate one South Asian restaurant in the constituency to go through to a regional final, and Aashiana was the Denton restaurant with the most suggestions.

Last year the competition raised money for the charity 'World Vision' which works globally to speak out for children affected by injustice and poverty.

Andrew Gwynne MP said:

“I am really pleased that Aashiana has been highly commended amongst a really tough field of other South Asian restaurants across the country. I will be very happy to present them with their chef’s whites from the Tiffin Cup competition.”

In total, 73 restaurants were nominated across the country. As part of the judging process mystery diners ate at the restaurants, judging them on food, ambience, location, service and décor.
