Biography

Andrew Gwynne and Gordon BrownAndrew Gwynne was elected on 5th May 2005 as the new Labour MP for the Denton and Reddish parliamentary constituency in Greater Manchester. 


Briefly about Andrew Gwynne:

  • He is 34-years old;
  • Married with three young children; 
  • Lives locally in Denton, where he grew up;
  • Educated at Egerton Park High School, Tameside College, North East Wales Institute and Salford University;
  • He served as a Labour Councillor on Tameside MBC between 1996 and 2008, representing the Denton West Ward; 
  • He is also a member of the new trade union UNITE (formerly Amicus and AEEU), the Co-operative Party and the Christian Socialist Movement; 
  • He is currently the Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Home Secretary, the Rt Hon Jacqui Smith MP
  • He previously served as a PPS to the Rt Hon Baroness Scotland of Asthal QC, as a Minister in the Home Office between November 2005 and July 2007.
  • Andrew is also the Chair of Labour Friends of Israel, Vice Chair of the North West Group of Labour MPs, Vice Chair of the All-Party Group on Children's Play,  a member of the Procedure Committee and of the Court of Referees.
