Labour MP for Denton and Reddish
Shadow Health Minister
Andrew has welcomed the news that Chris Spence, who works at the Denton McDonalds Restaurant, has graduated from the McDonalds Foundation Degree Programme and has achieved a Foundation Degree in Managing Business Operations. McDonald's has recently launched a foundation degree for staff.
Andrew Gwynne MP said:
“I am very pleased to visit Denton McDonald's and to learn that Chris has graduated on the new McDonald's Foundation Degree programme. It is an excellent way to gain a management qualification whilst working at the same time and both Mc Donald's and Chris should be congratulated on this pioneering approach to work-based learning.”
McDonalds have produced a university-style prospectus outlining the courses on offer, which will be placed among academic brochures at careers advice centers nationwide. Staff can also study for a full Bachelor of Arts degree with the company if they choose.
In 2008, McDonald's became one of the first employers to award its own GCSEs and A-levels in-house. The McDonald's foundation degree, accredited by Manchester Metropolitan University, is free for staff and begins this month with 53 workers.
