Denton Normandy veteran set to receive Civil Accolade

NormandyDenton man Mr William Mabey is set to receive a civic award in light of his military service during the Normandy Landing campaign in the Second World War. William will receive his “Normandie Commerative Bar” from the Civic Mayor of Tameside and local MP Andrew Gwynne, at a special ceremony.

 

The Bar, which is awarded by the “Normanidie Memoire Espace Historique” marks D-Day and the Battle of Normandy, is a personal thank you from people of Normandy to the Veterans to celebrate the 65th Anniversary of the landings, which took place on 6th June 1944.

 

Andrew Gwynne MP said:

 

“I am really honoured to be presenting this veterans medal to William, who served his country with distinction in the Second World War. It is a pleasure to present this award on behalf of “Normanidie Memoire Espace Historique.” It also serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made- and still being made – by British Armed Forces around the world.”

 

“We really owe our armed service a real vote of thanks for the hard job they do and it is my pleasure to award this medal to William.”
