National Day Nurseries Association launched its nationwide healthy body, happy me campaign, with Andrew making a visit to Jeffrey’s Corner Nursery in Dukinfield, to see how nurseries are supporting healthy lifestyles for children. The visits to Jeffrey’s Corner kick started this year’s campaign which will see nurseries across the UK giving children positive experiences of a healthy lifestyle through a range of fun-filled activities.
A highlight of healthy body, happy me week will be the Nursery Bird Watch on ‘Little Scientist Day’ on 17 March. NDNA has provided a range of free resources, including a bird spotting identification sheet and certificate, available to download from www.ndna.org.uk/birdwatch when nurseries sign up to take part in the event. So far over 300 nurseries and almost 13,500 children have signed up to take part in the Nursery Bird Watch.
Representatives from Hope Education, a national educational supplier based in Hyde, which is supporting ‘Little Scientist Day’ will also be attending and will supply the nursery with free resources to support the activities they will be taking part in during healthy body, happy me week.
National Day Nurseries Association is a national charity representing children’s nurseries across the UK, giving them information, training and support, so they can provide the best possible care to young children. Its official campaign week, which is now in its fifth year, takes place on 14 – 20 March 2011 and nurseries nationwide will be taking part in a range of fun-filled activities to raise awareness of the importance of good health and its affect on the happiness of children.
Andrew said:
“Nurseries play a positive role in supporting healthy lifestyles for young children and I am looking forward to visiting Jeffery’s Corner Nursery to find out about just some of the ways in which nurseries provide children with positive experiences of healthy activities and healthy eating.”
Eileen Smith, nursery manager:
“We are thrilled to be kicking off this nationwide campaign at our nursery. The children are excited about the special visitors and we are looking forward to showing them round our nursery and telling them all about the fun activities that we will be taking part in during healthy body, happy me week.”
