Labour MP for Denton and Reddish
Shadow Health Minister
Labour has called for the Tory-led government to rethink their devastating cuts to Feed-in Tariffs today, warning they could cause thousands of jobs losses, and stop nine out of ten families from cutting their energy bills by installing solar power.
Andrew Gwynne MP said:
“Just in the last year 19 families in Denton and Reddish have installed solar power. It’s a great way for people to green their homes and protect themselves from soaring energy bills.
“But the Government’s plans would exclude nearly nine of ten families in Denton and Reddish constituency from having solar. The cuts to Feed-in Tariffs also threaten to wipe out the solar industry and destroy thousands of jobs. This is just the latest example of a government which is out of touch, cutting too far and too fast, with no plan for jobs and growth.”
Labour’s Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary Caroline Flint said:
“It cannot be right that the Government is hitting people who are trying to do the right thing and cut their energy bills. The Government's cuts to Feed-in Tariffs will hit families, put thousands of jobs at risk and destroy the solar industry. They must think again, revise their scheme and extend their tariff deadline.
“Labour will continue to expose the devastating impact of the Government’s reckless attack on Feed-in Tariffs and to fight for a fairer deal for the people of Britain on energy prices.”
