Andrew Gwynne, MP for Gorton and Denton, has welcomed plans from TfGM to introduce step-free access to Levenshulme station as part of a £34m improvement programme for stations across Greater Manchester.
The scheme, approved by GMCA, will see money made available from the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement and the Department for Transport’s Access for All scheme to improve access at stations across Greater Manchester, where just 43% of stations are accessible.
Gwynne said: "I am absolutely delighted by the decision made to finally fund step-free access to Levenshulme Station.
The local Labour team have worked hard alongside the Friends group and other campaigners for accessibility improvements to be made and it’s great to see the funding now secured.
Levenshulme is one of the busiest stations in Greater Manchester outside of the city centre and it’s great to think it’ll soon be fully accessible to all"
